Tensas & The Mourners Announce Debut Album The Procession Out June 4th
Dark roots-punk from Colorado that doesn't ask permission

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO - May, 14th 2026 - Tensas & The Mourners are releasing their debut full-length album, The Procession, on June 4, 2026 via Tall Tale Records. The Colorado roots-punk duo delivers eleven tracks of eclectic, hard-hitting dark rock that refuses to stay in one lane. Think White Stripes grit, Tom Waits darkness, and Gogol Bordello energy.
Tensas handles lead vocals and guitar across the album, alongside Desha on drums, bass, trumpet, piano, and backing vocals. Desha's range across instruments pulls the music somewhere it couldn't go alone, bluesy jazz trumpet one moment, driving punk rhythm the next. The album art by artist James Fuller depicts the two of them as monsters driving a horse-drawn hearse through a New Orleans-style second line of dancing, instrument-playing creatures. Dark times deserve dark art, and The Procession doesn't let you look away.
The Procession opens with Let the River Speak, roots-punk grit that sets the tone before the record gets darker. Get Your Eyes Off Me is straight punk and angry, no apologies. Evil Nations, a previously released single, hits just as hard with reggae verses colliding with punk choruses over lyrics that protest and take aim at the state of the world. Little Bird is a gothic rock ballad about the voices that live in your head. On St. James Infirmary, Desha takes lead vocals with her trumpet alongside her. From a Violent Femmes cover to a closing revelation, eleven tracks and not one is filler.
"People have been asking for this album since day one. We recorded it ourselves, on our own terms, and didn't look back. The album is about the darkness we feel and see in the world, today and throughout history. We're all in the procession whether we like it or not." — Tensas
Tensas & The Mourners are a Colorado-based roots-punk band fronted by Tensas and driven by Desha, who plays trumpet and drums simultaneously. They've built a following across the Rocky Mountain region and Pacific Northwest through relentless touring, and have shared stages with Clyde McGee of Bridge City Sinners, Danbert Nobacon of Chumbawamba, Beans on Toast, and Jeshua Marshall of Larry & His Flask.
The Procession is available June 4, 2026 on all major streaming platforms and on CD via tensasmusic.com. Vinyl and cassette editions are planned for November 2026.
For fans of White Stripes, Tom Waits, and Gogol Bordello.
